Community Ministries engaged...

In the late spring & summer of 2010, West Edgecombe sponsored a community garden where communities members could plant & harvest their own vegetables or those who needed could get what was available at the West Edgecombe Vegetable Stand (you pick or they pick)

Who We Are

Rebuilding Hope Inc. is a non-profit corporation that acts to serve people who find themselves in situations that call for spiritual and physical help in a practical way. This organization seeks to provide and coordinate that help in our community and beyond. Rebuilding Hope is a group of people made up of Christian and civic minded folks that care enough to give of their time, talent and resources to better the lives of those individuals that can not do it for themselves.

We are driven by the recognition that "together" we can make our community a place that transforms ministry words of comfort to an authentic practical reality. Through sharing the good news of Christ and by restoring structures, our lives are made better and hope is restored. Please consider what you and/or your organization can do to become a willing partner in this ongoing mission. It is all about what Christ called us to do and then doing it.

What We Do

What we do is construction work!

Now that the first topic is out of the way, here's how we do it:
Rebuilding Hope receives referrals from civic, charitable and government organizations regarding people whose homes have sustained damage that makes the home unsafe or unfit for habitation. The property is inspected by a Rebuilding Hope assessor, the cost of repair materials is estimated and the project is posted on our projects website as well as other volunteer centers.
Because we are a volunteer organization with no paid employees, we are forced to wait for material and volunteers before beginning the project. That's the only way we can make those otherwise expensive repairs at no cost to the homeowner.
While we do keep some material on-hand in the warehouse, certain items that are particular to specific projects usually must be purchased, donated or otherwise funded before we can begin work.

Why We Do It

Christian ministry is this simple: Meet people at their point of need with the love of Christ.

For Rebuilding Hope, the point of need is home repairs.  Our ministry will work only through the generousity of people who share our vision and realize the eternal potential of demonstrating God's love and proclaiming God's Word through teh work of Rebuilding Hope.

Mission Projects for the Hospital

If your Sunday School class, mission group or church wants to take this as a project, you are welcome to schedule and deliver your kits, gifts, etc to the NRBA and our Director of Missions, Rev. John Hamm will personally deliver them to the hospital [or maybe you can take a day & go yourselves with him as your guide!]

John serves on the committee for the NC Baptist Convention that is attached to the hospital and would love to go with you as you deliver the special goodies you have collected to make the children who are patients, their siblings and their parents know that they are loved and cared for!

Brenner Children's Hospital - Pediatric Oncology Clinic - The staff maintains a 'Treasure Chest' to provide small gifts for children after painful procedures. Items needed for younger children are AGE APPROPRIATE which include matchbox toys, Beanie Babies, small box of Legos, crayons, coloring books, finger paint, bubbles and craft packages. For adolescents, the needs are school supplies, pens, notepads, stationary, picture frames, hair bows, and {wild colors} fingernail polish. Also a group might want to host a 'crafts program' for the children in the Clinic on a particular day or season of the year.

Brenner Children's Hospital - The following items are needed for families of hospitalized children:

Personal Care Kits - comb, toothbrush and travel size toothpaste, shampoo and liquid soap/body wash. The kits can be individualized for men or for women. Church groups often include their name and a Scripture verse in the kits.

Sibling Bags - coloring books, crayons and a children's book, Beanie Babies, puzzles, art pads/pencils and books for older children . These are given to the brothers and sisters of the hospitalized children. They often include a puzzle book for parents.

Thank you very much for prayerfully considering these mission projects to serve patients and their families in need at Baptist Hospital. Please contact Rev. Paul Mullen, Director of Church & Community Relations, NCBH for more information. (336) 716-3027.
